Description
Name: Spinosaurus aegypticus
Stage: Cenomanian, Cretaceous
Origin: taouz, kemkem, morocco
Height: 800cm
The remains of Spinosaurus were first discovered in Egypt, and described by Stromer in 1915. Recently, other discoveries in Morocco have expanded its geographical area (Moroccan animals are mostly specialists as belonging to the same species as those in Egypt). Some fossils put like the largest known carnivorous dinosaurs, reaching up to 15 m, with a weight between 4 and 6 tons.
The snout, shaped like a Crocodile head, was armed with several conical teeth. By their shape and form, they could have been used to grab fish. But an animal of this size would be able to feed on a wide spectrum of prey, from dinosaurs to carcasses.
The specimen presented here has a length of about 8 m. As by far the maximum dimensions are considerate, it is not a huge animal, but even though it is a composite specimen, it is the most complete skeleton known anywhere in the world. All the bones and fragments from which it was assembled can be considered to belong to the dinosaur genus Spinosaurus and they all come from the same geographical region
