The "stone fish" of Lebanon are among the most beautiful fossils in the world, bearing witness to a period approximately one hundred million years old.

Long before its independence, Lebanon had been celebrated by many travelers for its fish or crustacean footprint stones, now exhibited in many museums or preciously preserved in private collections. And for a long time, questions about the fossilization of these marine animals or their presence at the top of certain mountains, far from the current shores, remained unanswered.

This book is the result of the meeting between Mireille Gayet, paleoichthyologist, honorary director of research at the CNRS, who studied many groups of fossil fish while seeking to analyze and reconstruct their history, and a Lebanese, Pierre Abi Saad, archaeologist, collector passionate about and in love with the fossil fish of his country, of which he has an extraordinary collection which he brought to life through images with Olivier Gaudant, photographer and graphic designer.

The richness of the reproductions, the clarity of the comments and the rigor of the information make this work a marvelous collection of illustrations, a precious scientific study and an astonishing walk in the "Land of the cedars" - testimony to a heritage to which any amateur will be sensitive. ,
